Vol. 373 No. 4

Written Answers. - Grant Applications.

187.

asked the Minister for Labour if he has considered the application of KLEAR, the adult education group based in Kilbarrack, Dublin 5, for a grant to fund their creche facilities for the forthcoming year; if he will ensure that the grant is made available; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

KLEAR received funding under the Teamwork scheme since September 1984. Total grant approval to date is £60,335. An application from KLEAR for further assistance was rejected on 4 May 1987 as the proposed project did not satisfy the current conditions of the scheme.

The scheme is designed to create temporary employment opportunities for young people and cannot be viewed as a source of permanent funding for projects.

In view of the number of representations received, I have asked my officials to meet with the group to discuss possible sources of funding.

asked the Minister for Labour if he has considered an application from St. Luke's youth club for an extension of their Teamwork scheme for the forthcoming year; if he will ensure that the grant is made available to the club; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In 1986 this project received a grant of £30,850. An application for an extension received in January 1987 was rejected as the proposed project did not appear to satisfy the current conditions of the scheme. The scheme is designed to create temporary opportunities for young people and cannot be viewed as a source of permanent funding for projects.

asked the Minister for Labour if he has considered an application for an extension of the Teamwork scheme for Edenmore Youth Information Centre, Dublin 5, for the next year; if he will ensure that the grant is made available; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A grant of £6,240 has been approved in respect of Edenmore Employment Committee to allow for the extension of the project for a further 26 week period. This represents the final grant available in respect of this project.

asked the Minister for Labour if he has considered the application for an extension of funding from Bonnybrook Unemployed Action Group, Dublin 5, to facilitate the continued employment of the group workers who have initiated the programme of work for the group over the past 12 months; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

No formal application for an extension of their project has been received from the Bonnybrook Unemployed Action Group. The group may apply through the National Manpower Service for such an extension.

Should the extension application be approved it will be necessary to recruit a new group of participants to work on the project. The social employment scheme provides for up to 52 weeks' employment for each project participant. The reemployment of persons who have already completed 52 weeks on the scheme is not permitted because of the limited number of opportunities available under the scheme and the large number of eligible unemployed people.

asked the Minister for Labour when outstanding payments will be made to Ballyduff GAA Club, County Kerry, under the social employment scheme.

The grant instalment for Ballyduff GAA Club is currently being processed and payment will issue in the next two weeks.
