Vol. 373 No. 4

Written Answers. - Dublin Club for Physically Handicapped.

14.

asked the Minister for Health if it is possible to make funds available from the proceeds of the national lottery or from other sources, to the physically handicaped and able-bodied club, Blackrock, County Dublin, to help them continue with their very valuable work; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The funds made available to date for health-related services from national lottery proceeds have been fully committed. I will consider all applications from such organisations before me for financial assistance in the event of further funds being made available to me from the lottery.

It is, of course, open to this club to apply to the Eastern Health Board for a grant under section 65 of the Health Act, 1953, if it is felt that the services offered by the club are similar or ancillary to the services provided by the board.

I understand that this club has already received support from the Department of Labour, through its "Teamwork scheme" and that a grant of £3,640 was made available to employ two youth workers for six months ending on 12 June 1987. It is open to the group to reapply to the Department of Labour for a further grant.

The Department of Social Welfare is also at present considering an application from the PHAB Club for a grant towards a publishing project.
