Vol. 373 No. 4

Written Answers. - Income Tax Rebate.

asked the Minister for Finance when a tax rebate will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Waterford.

The Revenue Commissioners have advised me that the taxpayer ceased employment in December 1986. Two claims for repayment of tax on the grounds of unemployment were dealt with by the inspector of taxes and cheques in settlement of these repayments were issued on 11 February and 20 February 1987.

The taxpayer's final claim for a tax refund for 1986-87 requires to be dealt with by way of a joint review of his own and his wife's combined earnings for that year. The inspector wrote to the taxpayer on 3 April 1987 for the information required to carry out the review but the relevant details have not yet been supplied.

The inspector will now communicate again with the taxpayer in the matter.

asked the Minister for Finance when a tax rebate will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Laois.

The Revenue Commissioners have advised me that the taxpayer's employment ceased on 27 May 1987. Tax refunds on grounds of unemployment are normally dealt with at four-weekly intervals. If the taxpayer is still unemployed on 24 June 1987, he should apply to his local inspector of taxes for a refund, enclosing parts 2 and 3 of his form P.45 (cessation certificate) which he presumably obtained from his former employer on cessation of his employment.
