Vol. 373 No. 6

Request for Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 30: Allocation of Time.

I understand that Deputy Vincent Brady wishes to make an announcement.

Notwithstanding anything in Standing Orders or in the Resolution of the House today in relation to sittings and business, the proceedings on No. 20, Vote 46, shall be brought to a conclusion not later than 7.30 p.m. and the debate on the motion for the Adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 30 shall be taken at 7.30 p.m. today and the speech of each Member contributing to the debate shall not exceed 20 minutes and no Member shall speak more than once.

What time does the debate under Standing Order 30 end?

It is to be taken at 7.30 p.m., will run for an hour and a half and conclude at 9 o'clock.

On the basis of 20 minutes for the opening speakers and 20 minutes for the Minister, in effect my party will have no opportunity to contribute to that debate.

They will, it will be two hours.

Perhaps the Deputy would look at it again.

I would suggest 20 minutes for the opening speakers and 20 minutes for the Minister and 15 minutes for each of the other parties.

I would go along with that. That would mean that the opposition parties would have a chance of coming in.

Is the House agreeable to amend the order, to delete 20 and insert 15 minutes — 20 minutes for the opening speaker and for the Minister and 15 minutes for other speakers?
