A total of 549 post-primary schools had an ex-quota vice-principal post in the 1986-87 school year. The number of those schools which will be affected in the coming school year will depend on the occurrence of vacancies arising from retirements and resignations. The overall position in regard to the occurrence of vacancies does not become clear until later in the year.
