Vol. 373 No. 7

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take Nos. 2, 7 and 19 (Votes 29, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28). It is also proposed that No. 7 shall be taken without debate and the Supplementary Estimate shall be taken immediately afterwards. It is further proposed that Vote 29 and the Supplementary Estimate shall be taken together for the purpose of debate and the proceedings thereon shall be brought to a conclusion not later than 3 p.m. today by one question which shall be put from the Chair. It is further proposed that Votes 23, 24, 25, 26, 27 and 28 shall be taken together for the purpose of debate and the proceedings thereon shall be brought to a conclusion not later than 5 p.m. by one question which shall be put from the Chair.

Are the arrangements for the taking of the Estimates agreed? Agreed.

I should like to raise a matter in view of the seriousness of what has arisen in the Cork east area over the past few weeks. I am referring to the number of people who have been disallowed unemployment assistance on the grounds that they are not seeking employment. Those people have worn their shoes out seeking employment and I should like the Taoiseach to make a statement on the matter.

This is not in order. The Deputy should be aware of that.

Will the Taoiseach tell the House if this is Government policy?

The Deputy will resume his seat. Clearly, he is aware that what he is raising is not in order. Is the Deputy refusing to obey the Chair?

In view of the seriousness of this matter I should like permission to raise it on the Adjournment.

I regret that the order made by the House yesterday in relation to today's sitting did not provide for matters to be raised on the Adjournment.
