Vol. 373 No. 8

Written Answers. - Building Societies.

110.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give details of the composition of the Building Societies Consultative Council.

A Building Societies Consultative Council has not yet been appointed under the Building Societies (Amendment) Act, 1986. I have, however, appointed a Working Party on Building Society Legislation to assist in resolving problems in the implementation of the Building Societies Regulations, 1987, and to advise on the preparation of proposals for comprehensive new legislation governing the operation of building societies. This working party is representative of all building societies, the Departments of Finance and the Environment, the Registrar of Building Societies and the Central Bank.
