Vol. 373 No. 8

Written Answers. - County Clare Road.

152.

asked the Minister for the Environment the present position regarding Setrights Cross, Cratloe, County Clare, on the national primary route between Limerick city and Galway city and whether departmental engineers have abandoned the traffic light proposals.

The most appropriate road layout for this location is considered to be a grade separated junction which would remove the conflicting vehicular movements which now arise both at Setrights Cross and at Portdrine Cross. Clare County Council's outline scheme for this work was approved by the Department last April without prejudice to any statutory procedures that may arise. The provision of traffic lights on this road, which carries high-speed traffic, would have serious limitations. It is, therefore, proposed to proceed on the basis of the provision of a grade separated junction.
