asked the Taoiseach if he will give an estimate of the average length of stay on the live register during 1981 to 1985 inclusive; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A special age-by-duration analysis of the live register is carried out twice yearly in April and October. The following table shows the number of persons on the live register on the second last Friday of April and October 1981 to 1985, classified by duration of continuous registration. The information collected in this analysis is not sufficiently detailed to allow the calculation of an average duration of stay on the live register.
