Vol. 373 No. 9

Written Answers. - Dental School for TCD.

178.

asked the Minister for Education her views on the statement attributed to the chairman of the Higher Education Authority that the proposed new dental school for Trinity College, Dublin 2, will go ahead notwithstanding the objections to it; if her attention has been drawn to the fact that the demand for dentists in Ireland is not likely to increase in the future; and if she has satisfied herself that the proposal to expand £17.5 million of public moneys on this new dental school is not a waste of scarce resources; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Chairman of the Higher Education Authority is not conscious of what statement is being attributed to him on what occasion or in what context it is supposed to have been made. I am accordingly not in a position to comment of the matter.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 83 of 28 May 1987.
