Vol. 373 No. 9

Written Answers. - Public Service Arbitrator.

26.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will reappoint the public service arbitrator, when his present term of office expires; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The arbitrator under the public service conciliation and arbitration schemes is, on the nomination of the Minister for Finance and other relevant Ministers in agreement with staff interests, appointed by the Government. As the Taoiseach indicated at his meeting with the Irish Congress of Trade Unions on 9 June last, the question of the appointment of an arbitrator is being considered by the Government at present. The staff interests will be informed as soon as a decision is taken.
