Vol. 373 No. 12

Written Answers. - Social Employment Scheme.

138.

asked the Minister for Labour the reason for the delay in having a decision made regarding approval for participation in a social employment scheme (details supplied) in County Kilkenny.

An application for an extension to a social employment scheme operated by New-market national school, County Kilkenny, was approved by my Department in February 1987.

However, in order to remain within the budget provided for the social employment scheme in 1987, regional participation quotas were allocated. Consequently, new projects and participation could commence only when sufficient numbers of current participants complete their term of employment under the scheme. There has been a reallocation of regional quotas recently and the quota for the south-east region (which includes County Kilkenny) has been increased from 1,024 to 1,244.

The National Manpower Service, Kilkenny, will contact the school shortly to advise them when they can start.
