asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food (a) the quantity and value of eggs imported into Ireland for the past 12 months; (b) the number of firms engaged in the importation of eggs into this country.

In the 12 months ended April 1987, imports of table eggs amounted to 5,980 metric tonnes valued at £4,688,000.

Information as to the number of firms engaged in their importation is not available to my Department.
