asked the Minister for the Environment if he will arrange for the same level of housing grants to be made available to residents of non-Gaeltacht inhabited off-shore islands as is available on inhabited Gaeltacht islands; if not, the reason; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have no proposals to reintroduce the housing grants, including those for non-Gaeltacht islands, the termination of which was announced in the Budget Statement. Neither do I propose to vary the existing new house grant as it applies to non-Gaeltacht islands.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a house improvement grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Kerry.

On receipt of the inspector's report on the completed works, payment of the grant will be considered.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason it is taking two months for a final inspection to take place on house improvement grants in County Kildare.

Generally speaking, there are no undue delays in carrying out inspections in County Kildare. However, if the Deputy has any particular case in mind I will look into the position, on receipt of particulars. Inspectors are redeployed as necessary within their region to cope with any arrears in particular areas.

A certificate for payment of a grant has not been received from the local authority concerned.
