Vol. 373 No. 13

Written Answers. - Telephone and Postal Costs.

225.

asked the Minister for Education the estimated amount that her Department will pay to Telecom Éireann and An Post during 1987 for services rendered; if it is possible to make savings in these areas of expenditure; and if she will give the corresponding figures for the 1986 out-turn.

The following provisions have been included in the 1987 Estimates for my Department in relation to Postal and Telecommunications Services.

Postal Services £759,000; Telephones and Telegrams £354,000. The corresponding out-turn figures for 1986 were £602,000 and £512,000 respectively.

Attention is constantly given to ways in which savings might be made in these areas. Staff members are advised from time to time of the need for economies in postage and telecommunications and suggestions made on how such economies might be effected.
