asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will indicate for each local authority and/or county the number of registered silage pits which are in existence and which have received grants from the State directly or indirectly; if he will indicate for each local authority and/or county the amount, in capital terms of the total amounts of grants that have been paid to help the construction of such silage pits; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Grant aid amounting to about £35 million has been paid to approximately 55,000 farmers for the construction of silage storage facilities under the Farm Modernisation Scheme, Farm Improvement Programme and Programme for Western Development. Statistics are not available on a county or local authority basis

There is no system of registration for silage pits.
