Vol. 374 No. 1

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

138.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if arrangements will be made for an appeal against a decision to disallow disability benefit to a person (details supplied) in Dublin 12.

The person concerned was paid disability benefit to 25 May 1987 after which date payment was disallowed following examination by a medical referee who expressed the opinion that she was capable of work. She appealed against the disallowance of benefit and was examined by a different medical referee on 17 September 1987 who also expressed the opinion that she was capable of work.

Her appeal has now been referred to an appeals officer and if it is decided to hold an oral hearing she will be advised of the arrangements in due course.

139.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if payment of a benefit can now be made to a person (details supplied) in County Dublin, having regard to the fact that the appropriate certificates have now been furnished; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The person concerned claimed disability benefit from 14 September 1987 and is currently being paid at the weekly rate of £47.15, the maximum rate appropriate to a married woman with one child dependant, and whose spouse is employed.

She was not paid an increase in respect of her child dependant for the period 17 September 1987 to 5 October 1987 because of an administrative error. The position has been rectified and all benefit payable for the above period has now been issued.
