asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce in relation to each personal assistant, adviser, consultant, typist, secretary, or other category employed from outside the civil service in a temporary or part time or permanent capacity, or on a contractual basis since March 10th, the name, rank, remuneration and terms of employment; and if seconded, from where.

The salaries for the above staff include any allowances to which they are entitled.

In the case of Minister of State Brennan's civilian drivers, a third driver is employed on a temporary basis only, to replace another civilian driver who is on extended sick leave. The salary figure shown above, represents the weekly salary of two civilian drivers plus the Department's contribution to the salary of the driver on sick leave.

The function of the constituency office is to support and assist me in the organisation and running of constituency affairs and likewise the function of the private office is to provide the necessary services for the day-to-day running of my Department and to advise on current events and developments.

I am satisfied that the number of staff in the constituency and private offices is the minimum required for effectively performing the duties of those offices.
