Vol. 374 No. 1

Written Answers. - Staff Statistics.

155.

asked the Minister for Energy in relation to each personal assistant, adviser, consultant, typist, secretary, or other category employed from outside the civil service in a temporary or part time or permanent capacity, or on a contractual basis since March 10, the name, rank, remuneration and terms of employment, and if seconded, from where.

I have engaged two people from outside the Civil Service to work in my office on full time temporary contracts, containing the appropriate sick leave, annual leave and superannuation provisions.

My personal assistant, Mr. Tony Lambert, is in receipt of an annual salary of £16,489.

My personal secretary, Ms. Susan Casey is on temporary secondment from the Houses of the Oireachtas and her salary is £8,374 per annum.

Both appointments will last for the duration of the present Government.

156.

asked the Minister for Energy the number of persons employed in (1) the constituency office and (2) the private office of himself and his Minister of State; the rank of each person and the salary paid; if he will outline the functions of the constituency office and the private office; and if he will make a statment on the matter.

Details of the staffing in the private and constituency offices in my Department are contained in the attached tabular statement.

The private office provides a secretariat function, co-ordinates activities and acts as a liaison between the Department and the Minister and the Minister of State. This administrative support enables Ministers to effectively carry out their Oireachtas and departmental functions.

The constituency office deals with the large volume of correspondence and local issues which arise in the Ministers' constituencies.
