Vol. 374 No. 1

Written Answers. - Road Planning.

187.

asked the Minister for the Environment whether it is Government policy to pursue within the same timetable the previous Government's published document on road planning for the eighties; if he will outline the level of capital expenditure for the next five years which it is proposed to make available for local authorities for the improvement of the national primary system; whether the same scale and level of priorities will continue or alternatively if he has a new programme of priorities; if so, if he will outline such priorities and if he will give an indication as to the amount of expenditure he expects to authorise in 1988 and 1989; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have undertaken a comprehensive review of the 1985 Road Plan, which has reached an advanced stage.

The provision for Road Grants payable by my Department for 1988 is £150 million.
