Vol. 374 No. 1

Written Answers. - OECD Tax Data.

71.

asked the Minister for Finance the most recent data for OECD countries giving tax as a percentage of gross domestic product; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The data requested is available in the Oireachtas Library in the following publication —"Revenue Statistics of OECD member countries, 1965 to 1986", OECD, Paris 1987.

The standard OECD definition of tax revenue includes social security contributions. On this basis the OECD data show that Ireland's tax revenue as a % of GDP (39.1%) is above the OECD average of 37.2% but is less than the EEC average of 39.8%. (The figures relate to 1985.)
