Vol. 374 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tax Yield.

77.

asked the Minister for Finance the current estimated yield from 4 pence on the pint, 4 pence on a glass of spirits and 4 pence on a packet of cigarettes.

It is assumed that what the Deputy has in mind is the estimated additional annual revenue yield (i.e. excise duty plus VAT) from increased taxation of the levels referred to on beer, spirits and cigarettes (including pro rata increases on other tobacco products). On that basis, the information requested is as follows:

Commodity

Amount of increase (incl. VAT)

Estimated additional annual revenue yield

£m

Beer

4p per pint

22.4

Spirits

4p per glass

4.8

Tobacco Products

4p per 20 cigarettes and pro rata increases on other tobacco products

7.6
