asked the Minister for Justice in relation to each personal assistant, adviser, consultant, typist, secretary, or other category employed from outside the civil service in a temporary or part-time or permanent capacity, or on a contractual basis since 10 March 1987, the name, rank, remuneration and terms of employment, and if seconded, from where.

The information sought by the Deputy is set out in the tabular statement hereunder. Only one officer of those listed (the first on the list) is attached to the Minister's personal office. The remainder are serving in other offices throughout the Department.

£204.15 p.w. plus an allowance of £13.53 p.w.

The appointment is temporary and wholetime and will terminate not later than the date on which the Government cease to hold office.

Typist

£112.90 p.w.

Temporary appointment from National Manpower Service for one week.

Consultant

Fee for 1 year £24,000

This consultant has been engaged with effect from 29 July, 1987 on a full time basis for a period of one year.

6 Prison Officers (Trades)

£216.32 p.w. rising by six increments to £263.87 p.w.

The appointments are subject to the Civil Service Regulation Acts, 1956 and 1958 and all other acts relating to the Civil Service and also to the Prison Acts and Rules made under the Prison Acts.

27 Prison Officers

£184.20 p.w. rising by eight increments to £231.49 p.w.

31 Temporary Prison Officers

£184.20 p.w.

The appointments are temporary and may be terminated at any time in accordance with the Minimum Notice and Terms of Employment Act, 1973. Officers shall be subject to the terms of the Statutory Rules for the Government of Prisons, 1947.

£112.90 p.w. rising by ten increments to £167.19 p.w.

The appointments are subject to the Civil Service Regulation Acts 1956 and 1958 and all other Acts relating to the Civil Service.

The appointments are wholetime training assignments for a period of one year but may be terminated at any time by either side. The assignments are not pensionable and infer no claim for established status.

One Temporary Circuit Court Judge

Appointment for ten months and in accordance with the Constitution.

One Temporary Clerical Assistant

£22.58 per day

Appointed on a temporary day-to-day basis for specified limited period.

None of the persons referred to in the tabular statement is on secondment to my Department.

It is not the policy of the Department to give the names generally of officers.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of persons employed in (1) his constituency office and (2) his private office; the rank of each person and the salary paid; if he will outline the functions of the constituency office and the private office; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The attached schedule sets out details of the staff employed in the private and constituency offices of the Minister for Justice. The functions of the private and constituency offices are to provide assistance to the Minister in the day to day discharge of his official duties and in his role as public representative.
