Vol. 374 No. 2

Written Answers. - Birr Sewerage Scheme.

66.

asked the Minister for the Environment the present position regarding the re-location of the sewerage system at Birr, County Offaly; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the existing system is causing problems in Birr community school which is situated in close proximity; if he will re-locate the sewerage system; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I understand that the existing sewage treatment works in Birr, which is located near the Birr community school, is overloaded and causing problems.

Contract documents for a new scheme, including the provision of a new treatment works located a greater distance from the community school, have been received from Birr Urban District Council and my Department has requested further information from the council. When this information is received, the scheme will be further considered, with due regard to existing financial commitments and other high priority schemes competing for the limited capital funds available.
