Vol. 374 No. 3

Written Answers. - Tax Assessment.

30.

asked the Minister for Finance his views on the tax problems being experienced by a person (details supplied) in Dublin 7; and if the tax bill of £700 is correct in this case.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the figure of £700 referred to in the question represents the tax due on foot of an estimated assessment raised on the taxpayer for 1987-88. As a timely appeal specifying a "nil" payment on account was lodged by the taxpayer against the assessment, a tax demand should not have been issued to her and arrangements have been made to ensure that further demands will not be sent to the taxpayer pending the determination of her appeal.

It is considered that the case can be settled without recourse to the appeal proceedings provided the taxpayer supplies certain outstanding information which the inspector of taxes has requested so that the correct liability, if any, may be determined.
