Vol. 374 No. 3

Written Answers. - Clinic for AIDS Victims.

119.

asked the Minister for Health if he will allocate one of the hospitals which will be closing down in the Dublin area as a clinic for the treatment of AIDS victims; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Under the Government AIDS stratgy, cases of AIDS will be treated in general hospitals by the appropriate consultant depending on the nature of the opportunist infection or cancers the individual may be suffering from. I am satisfied that adequate facilities are already available for the treatment of AIDS victims in our general hospitals. It would be inappropriate, in terms of the known treatment of the disease, to create an isolation hospital for AIDS victims.
