Vol. 374 No. 4

Written Answers. - West Cork Beaches.

12.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he can give an assurance to visitors to west Cork that the beaches are clean and safe to use in the wake of the Kowloon Bridge disaster; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I can assure the Deputy and all visitors to west Cork that the beaches in the area are clean. Oil pollution caused by the grounding of the Kowloon Bridge on the Stags was removed from affected areas in advance of the June bank holiday weekend. Small quantities of oil came ashore over a limited stretch of coast yesterday and Cork County Council is cleaning it up at present.
