Vol. 374 No. 4

Written Answers. - Dublin Hospitals' Chimneys.

35.

asked the Minister for the Environment the action, if any, he proposes to take to deal with the serious environmental implications of an admission by Dublin City Health Authorities to Dublin City Council that chimneys at both the new Mater Hospital and the Children's Hospital, Temple Street are unsatisfactory and discharge substantial pollutants into the atmosphere, in contravention of acceptable standards and possibly the law; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am satisfied that adequate powers exist, particularly under the Air Pollution Act, 1987, for local authorities to deal with this type of problem. I understand that improvements are being pursued by Dublin Corporation in both of the cases mentioned.
