Vol. 374 No. 4

Written Answers. - Ballyfermot, Dublin Gas Leak.

62.

asked the Minister for Energy if he will give an assurance that due urgency has been given to the gas leak at Our Lady of Victories youth club, Sarsfield Road, Ballyfermot, Dublin 10; if he will assure the residents in the immediate vicinity, users of the road and the neighbouring petrol filling stations that there is no danger; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

63.

asked the Minister for Energy if his attention has been drawn to the fact that Our Lady of Victories youth club, Sarsfield Road, Ballyfermot, Dublin 10 has been closed since last May due to a gas leak; the levels and type of gas traced at the premises; how dangerous these levels are; the reason it has not been possible after five months to seal the leak, eliminate danger and allow the youth club to re-open; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 62 and 63 together.

I have received a report on this matter from Dublin Gas and I understand that the gas in question has not escaped from the Dublin Gas Company network. The gas may have come from a nearby "tip-head" and the matter was referred to Dublin Corporation for investigation on 4 August, 1987.
