Vol. 374 No. 5

Written Answers. - Training Programmes.

18.

asked the Minister for Labour if he has satisfied himself that it will be possible for CERT to expand the existing training programme to cater for an additional 300 trainees having regard to the Government's stated intention to reduce the allocation to CERT in the 1988 Estimate by 12 per cent.

The reduction in Exchequer funding to CERT was made on the basis of a corresponding increase in funding being provided by the industry. As the Deputy is aware, the contribution from industry in the context of CERT's overall budget is relatively small.

I will be looking to CERT to find the funding for the proposed expansion through a combination of savings, further reduction in overheads and additional funding from the industry in one form or another.
