asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the level of remuneration of the non-executive directors of boards, companies or agencies under his control which was first set; when these levels were set; if they have ever been revised in line with inflation or with the level of remunerations of non-executive directors of private sector entities of similar size and responsibilities.

Fees have been revised since they were first set. The last two occasions on which there were general revisions were in 1964 and 1974. In 1964 all fees under £500 per annum were increased by 25 per cent subject to an upper limit of £500. In 1974 fees were increased by 60 per cent. This increase was based on movements in private sector directors' fees. There has been no increase since 1974.
