asked the Minister for Education if she will give detailed breakdowns of the estimated savings in 1987 which amounts to £2,100,000, in vocational education committee cost efficiencies and £500,000 in respect of community and comprehensive schools as presented by her in reply to a parliamentary question on 12 May 1987.

A reduction of £2.6 million in the overall allocations for vocational education committees and community and comprehensive schools was carried through into the individual allocations in 1987. The measures necessary to effect the required savings through more efficient and cost-effective operations are a matter for local management to decide on within general guidelines laid down by my Department.
Consequently, the detailed breakdown requested by the Deputy is not available in my Department.
