Vol. 374 No. 7

Written Answers. - Health Cuts.

39.

asked the Minister for Health if he has received representations from the Cleft Lip and Palate Association of Ireland regarding the implementation of the health cuts affecting the treatment of children in the Dublin area and other parts of the country; and if he will make a statement on the matter outlining the facilities he proposes to maintain, initiate or expand.

Representations have been received from the Cleft Lip and Palate Association of Ireland in this regard.

The cleft palate unit located at Dr. Steevens Hospital is to be transferred to St. James's Hospital by the 31 December, 1987 as part of the rationalisation of hospital services in the Dublin area. The consultants associated with this unit have expressed satisfaction with the planned facilities in St. James's and recognise that they represent a considerable improvement on those presently available in Dr. Steevens Hospital.

In the interim, until such time as this transfer is effected, services will continue to be maintained in Dr. Steevens Hospital.
