Vol. 374 No. 9

Written Answers. - Teacher Employment.

26.

asked the Minister for Education the measures she will take to ensure that teachers who lose their jobs as a result of new guidelines on pupil-teacher ratio are re-employed within the education system; in particular, the measures she will take in respect of teachers who do not have the right to go on a panel for reappointment; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The rules for national schools provide for lay teachers in denominational schools and teachers in special schools who are qualified to teach in ordinary national schools, who lose their post owing to insufficiency of averages, to have their names placed on Diocesan or other approved panels to enable them to secure appointments to alternative posts. The position of other qualified teachers who do not enjoy panel rights at present is under consideration.
