Vol. 374 No. 9

Written Answers. - Scheduled Air Services.

93.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport the scheduled air services originating at airports within the State which receive a subsidy from his Department; the amount of the subsidy in each case; the number of passengers carried during the past 12 months on each route in respect of which a subsidy is paid; and the airlines to which each subsidy is paid.

The only air service originating within the State which receives a subsidy from my Department is the Dublin to Derry air service. Provision for payment of a maximum subsidy of £112,000 for the service has been made in the Estimates for 1987 and 1988. The subsidy is based on a payment of £37 per unsold seat per flight, subject to a maximum of 3 seats per flight. In the 12 months up to the end of September 1987, 1,812 passengers were carried on the route. The current operators of the route, since May 1987, are Iona National Airways Limited. Previous operators were Shannon Executive Aviation, Aer Arann and Avair.
