asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the number of late applications received by his Department in the current year in respect of ewe premium payments; if after examination it has been found that some of these applicants were deemed eligible; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The number of applications under the 1986 ewe premium scheme received after the closing date, 13 March 1987 was 223. Of these 21 were subsequently admitted to the scheme on proving that they had posted their applications before the closing date or that they had been unable to post their applications on time due to illness and other circumstances outside their control.
