Vol. 374 No. 10

Written Answers. - National Social Service Board.

86.

asked the Minister for Health the exact amount of money that will be saved by his decision to abolish the National Social Service Board.

The Government's decision to abolish the National Social Service Board was not primarily concerned with reducing public expenditure.

The decision on abolition was taken largely to ensure that the services were re-organised and resources used in the most effective way possible. This decision is part of the Government's wider commitment to eliminate duplication in the system and rationalise services. Discussions are continuing between my Department and the relevant agencies to finalise the new appropriate arrangements. There will be no reduction in the services available to the public.
