There are a total of 119 persons awaiting cardio by-pass surgery in the Eastern Health Board area and a total of 172 persons in the remainder of the country.
It is not possible to give the average waiting period for such surgery as it varies significantly from one hospital to another. There is a regular assessment of those on the waiting lists and priority is always given to emergency cases.
