Vol. 375 No. 1

Written Answers. - Health Bodies Staffing.

187.

asked the Minister for Health the estimated number of (a) medical (b) nursing (c) para-medical (d) administrative (e) other professional and technical personnel who will no longer be employed in (i) each health board or (ii) other parts of the health service, outside of his Department during 1988 as a result of the expenditure reduction measures decided by the Government referred to in page V of the Estimates for the Public Services 1988, and the estimated (1) pay savings, (2) on-going pension costs (3) lump sum redundancy and (4) other lump-sum payment costs in respect of each of (i) and (ii) above.

Health boards and other health bodies are considering the personnel implications of the allocations for non capital expenditure for 1988. Such consideration will encompass measures necessary to rationalise staffing including non filling of vacancies, reduction in the number of temporary employees, redeployment and in some instances the offer of voluntary redundancy terms to staff. In view of the voluntary nature of the redundancy package it would be difficult to predict in advance the exact combination of measures to be applied in any particular instance.
