Written Answers. - Appeal Hearing of Birmingham Six.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will co-ordinate and assist a representative group of Dáil members to attend for one or two days during the appeal hearing of the Birmingham Six; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have instructed our embassy in London to offer all possible assistance to Members who wish to gain access to the court in which the Birmingham Six appeal is taking place.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he is concerned at the allegations by a prominent member of the SDLP on RTE on Wednesday, 4 November 1987 that the British police authorities at the Old Bailey are displaying hostility to observers attending the appeal hearing of the Birmingham Six and that anti-Irish insults and comments have been made by the police; if he will make strong representations to the British in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The treatment of persons attending the hearing has been raised with the appropriate authorities.
