Vol. 375 No. 3

Written Answers. - Farm Grants.

16.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the amount of moneys paid out to farmers in the current year under (a) the farm improvement scheme, (b) the farm modernisation scheme and (c) the western package; and the costs of administration associated with these individual schemes.

An amount of £14.65 million has been provided under Subhead M1 of the Vote for my Department to cover expenditure in 1987 under the farm improvement programme, farm modernisation scheme, programme for western development, western drainage scheme and the scheme of installation aid for young farmers. It is expected that the amount provided will be fully utilised. The salaries and travel costs in 1987 of the personnel engaged in administering these schemes are estimated at £5.5 million. Staffing levels are at present under review having regard to the reducing work programme under these schemes.
