asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the intervention and storage costs of Irish grain.

The costs of purchasing grain for intervention in Ireland in 1986 and in 1987 to date are as follows:

Any losses on sales are recouped by the EC as and when the grain is resold. Costs of storage, handling and transport are refunded by the EC on the basis of standard rates applicable to member states generally. The EC also contributes at a standard rate towards the interest on national funds used to operate the system.
