asked the Minister for Justice in respect of staff employed in his Department including all agencies under his aegis, the grades held by persons who operate printing machines.

The printing machine located in the Head Office of my Department is operated by a paperkeeper.

With regard to the Prison Service, there are printing workshops at Arbour Hill Prison and St. Patrick's Institution. Offenders in Arbour Hill Prison work under the supervision of an assistant industrial supervisor (prison officer with an allowance of £25.64 per week) and an industrial supervisor (assistant chief officer with an allowance of £10.26 per week). In St. Patrick's Institution the offenders work under the supervision of a basic grade prison officer.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that one sergeant and seven gardaí attached to the Garda Printing Unit at Garda Headquarters are engaged on duties which include operating printing machines. In addition, one member of sergeant rank is engaged part-time in operating printing equipment in the Garda Training Centre, Templemore.
