Vol. 375 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - New Forestry Company.

13.

asked the Minister for Energy the proposed location of the headquarters of the new forestry company; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The examination of this matter has not yet been concluded but I expect to have a decision taken within the next few months.

Will the Minister take into consideration the current location of manufacturing companies and the supply of raw materials when he is siting the headquarters for the new company?

Every aspect of this matter will be considered before a final decision is taken.

As one rural Deputy to another, may I take it that the Minister will take into account the various substantial merits of establishing such headquarters outside Dublin?

In the context of this question I am not prepared to indicate at this stage how the dice will fall. It is too early and not sufficient consideration has been given to it.

In the interests of decentralisation, could major consideration be given to such siting outside the capital?

I have voiced my interest many times in the past with regard to the value of decentalisation, not just in regard to offices but in decision-making processes as well. I welcome the unanimous view with regard to location from the opposition benches.

If North Tipperary will not have it, it is welcome in Cork.

Apart from deciding on the location, could the Minister tell us when the company itself will be established?

I expect to be in a position to introduce the legislation in this House prior to Christmas.
