Vol. 375 No. 7

Written Answers. - Remedial Works Scheme.

91.

asked the Minister for the Environment if funding under the remedial works scheme for so-called low cost housing schemes is still available; if so, the level of funding available; if this funding can be used to install fireplaces in these schemes; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The provision of solid fuel burning appliances in schemes of local authority dwellings built without them and the replacement of prefabricated chimneys may, in certain circumstances, quality for assistance under the terms of the Department's remedial works scheme. Applications from individual housing authorities will be considered in the light of the demand for the funds available. A sum of £7 million was provided this year for the remedial works scheme and funding will continue to be made available in 1988 from the capital provision for local authority housing.
