Vol. 375 No. 8

Written Answers. - Donegal Main Water Mains.

59.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received an application from Donegal County Council to replace the main water mains from Dore to Bunbeg and Derrybeg in County Donegal; the estimated cost of this replacement and in view of recent difficulties with quality of water in the area when work will commence on its replacement.

Contract documents for the replacement of the main from Derrybeg Bridge to Clady Bridge and the duplication of the main from Meenanillar Cross to beyond the industrial estate are under consideration in my Department at present. These documents do not provide for the replacement of the main from Dore Junction to Bunbeg Cross.

In view of the existing high level of commitments on the sanitary services programme, the limited funds available and the competing demands arising from high priority schemes, I cannot indicate at this stage when I will be in a position to allow the scheme go to tender and construction. I would prefer not to give an estimate of cost at this stage as to do so might prejudice any future tendering process.

I understand that Donegal County Council have taken measures which will relieve the particular problem that has arisen in relation to the water supply in the area.
