Vol. 375 No. 9

Written Answers. - National Lottery Proceeds.

45.

asked the Minister for the Environment if funds will be made available from the national lottery for the construction of a swimming pool on land belonging to the Maynooth post-primary school, County Kildare.

In my reply to Questions Nos. 27 and 76 of 25 November 1987 I indicated in general terms the types of amenity projects which may be assisted from the sum of £6 million made available from the national lottery surplus for amenity projects. While swimming pools have not been specifically excluded, it is unlikely that they could in practice be assisted from this allocation because of the high costs involved and the need to take account of the claims of competing projects. I have not received any application for assistance towards the provision of a swimming pool at Maynooth primary school.
