Vol. 376 No. 1

Written Answers - County Wexford Primary School.

198.

asked the Minister for Education the size of classroom extension which will be fully sanctioned by her for a primary school (details supplied) in County Wexford; when final sanction will be issued; if she will make arrangements for the provision of interim prefabricated facilities until such time as the construction will take place for the school in question; and the year in which the construction is likely to take place.

My Department has approved in principle a grant towards the cost of six classrooms by way of permanent extension to the primary school referred to. Because of a recent fall in enrolment averages at the school, this may not now represent accurately the long term accommodation needs of the school. Pending clarification of this issue, my Department has asked its professional advisers to make recommendations on an application from the school for a grant towards the cost of prefabricated facilities to serve the class group at present accommodated in the community centre, and will be in touch with the school authorities as soon as possible about the matter.

I am not in a position to say at this stage when the construction of the permanent extension of the school is likely to take place.
