Vol. 376 No. 1

Written Answers - Consultant Doctors.

16.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state the number of consultant doctors employed in the public health service who also have contracts in private hospitals; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The total number of consultants employed in the public health service is 1,020. The number of these consultants who also have contracts in private hospitals is not available.

A consultant employed in a public hospital may engage in providing a service to a private hospital subject to the condition that such work does not restrict the fulfilment of his obligations under his public hospital contract which requires him to work a specific number of hours as stipulated in his contract.
