Vol. 376 No. 1

Written Answers - Institutional Assistance Regulations.

52.

asked the Minister for Health the amount and date of effect of the proposed charges to be made before 1 January 1988 in the amendments to the Institutional Assistance Regulations; the number of persons who will be affected; and the yield from these amended charges in 1988.

The proposed amendment to the Health (Charges for In-Patient Services) Regulations, 1976 (S.I. No. 180 of 1976) will allow a charge to be made after 30 days rather than 90 days as at present. No other change is proposed. It is estimated that about 8,000 people are involved. The amendment which will come into effect on 1 January 1988 is expected to yield £2.5 million in 1988.
